Watershed’s Strategic Vision, endorsed by the Board of Trustees in September 2021, challenged us to set down our roots and secure a permanent home for our school— to move beyond leasing temporary space and toward a future that ensures a Watershed education for generations to come.
In October 2022, Watershed took a significant step in this direction with the purchase of a building at 5400 Spine Rd in Boulder, CO, approximately 12 min northeast of our current location. You can read Watershed’s October 2022 announcement and an article in the Daily Camera.
We are thrilled to announce that Watershed has purchased the additional building needed to complete the new Watershed Campus! The second building, 5405 Spine Rd, is next door to the original building.
You’ll be hearing more details and updates in the coming months about Watershed’s plans, but as a brief overview:
Our new campus offers 29,000 square feet of learning space. With increased enrollment demand in recent years, we are truly bursting at the seams in our current 19,000 square feet.
5400 Spine Rd is well-suited for large, open spaces for science, art, and maker classes as well as seminar/study spaces, a large full-community gathering space, and an expedition trip staging area.
5405 Spine Rd offers space for math, humanities, and language learning classes. Rooms will be organized in “pods” – areas with learning studios/classrooms and educator offices surrounding breakout/individual workspaces. The building will also have a cafe and student lounge. The flexible, fluid design of our renovation plans will give our students and educators the learning spaces they deserve – a campus that is embedded in the broader community, a campus that sparks awe and wonder, a campus that cultivates inquiry and community.
Renovations of both buildings are scheduled to begin in early 2024, and we plan to move Watershed to our new campus during the summer of 2024! We’ll keep you posted on progress and ways you can support this exciting step for Watershed.
