Student Research at Skálanes research center, Seyðisfjörður, Iceland

A central feature of the “Fire & Ice: Field Science in Iceland” 2022 May Term course was a 5-day immersive field experience at Skálanes Research Center in the eastern fjords of the Iceland. High school students in this course designed an independent research project and collected and analyzed their data at Skálanes. Students then distilled their research to an academic science poster which they presented to an audience and shared their data with Skálanes as a resource for future scientific researchers.

Abby Dahlstrom’s ‘23 research project explored the impact of wind speed and time of day on the frequency of Common Snipe “drumming.” Click the image to the right to access a pdf of the Abby’s research poster.
