Carmela earned a Bachelor's degree in History and a minor in Philosophy from the University of Colorado at Boulder, discovering her passion for the outdoors during this time. After college, she hiked across Colorado, Utah, and New Mexico, and embarked on numerous road trips around the West Coast. Returning to her roots in New York, Carmela pursued a Master's degree in Teaching Adolescent Social Studies from Hunter College in Manhattan to focus on inclusive education and experiential learning.
Before fully dedicating herself to a career in education, Carmela lived in Spain, where she climbed and backpacked while working as an English Language & Culture Assistant in Madrid. Prior to joining Watershed, she served as a High School Global Studies educator and advisor at The Churchill School and Center, a place for students with language-based learning differences.
During her downtime, Carmela engages with historical fiction or 'cli-fi' books, indulges in culinary experimentation, savors the scent of early-morning coffee amidst mountainous landscapes, and occasionally loses track of why she entered a room.
