The Ecology Project

The COVID-19 pandemic presented a unique situation for our ecological communities. As a result of the Shelter-in-Place and Stay-at-Home mandates, local species and environments are experiencing abnormally low human traffic and interactions. Field researchers are unable to do much of the spring travel and group data collection they’d ordinarily conduct at this time of year. This is a critical window to support local research efforts, and to collect baseline data that can be used to understand human impacts on the environment.

Local Partnerships

Watershed School has partnered with several local organizations including the Nature Conservancy, the Inland Ocean Coalition, Rocky Mountain Biological Lab, and the Boulder Chickadee Study to engage in research, data collection & analysis, and conservation efforts. Students are contributing to the investigation of how humans affect, but also support, local ecosystems.
